Art and Design
Art at Woodvale Primary Academy
“Art has the role in education of helping children become more like themselves instead of more like everyone else.” Sydney Gurewitz Clemens
We want our children at our school to be equipped with the appropriate skills for any artistic vocation. Our teachers encourage children’s artistic development from Nursery through to Year 6, exposing them to excellent art opportunities and learning experiences inside and outside the classroom.
Art plays an important role in enriching our students learning and educational experiences. Art is a practical subject which stimulates creativity and imagination through the use of different materials and elements of Art. Art provides the children with opportunities to express their responses to ideas and experiences in a visual or tactile form.
At Woodvale Primary Academy, teaching of Art and Design is supported through the use of Kapow which delivers an exciting, high-quality Art curriculum which all of our children can access. Art and Design is taught as a distinct subject which focuses on learning different skills where the teaching and learning is rigorous and of a high-quality. The children will gain a comprehensive range of techniques which are sequentially built upon to enable them to show their ideas in a wide range of styles and materials. Our students are always provided with the opportunity to explore and be influenced by the style of different artists and are enthusiastically encouraged to use the artists ideas and skills in their own pieces of artwork. Our Art lessons provide regular opportunities for the children to reflect and become critical thinkers who can make critical responses of their own work and suggestions on how to improve it.
At the end of the student’s journey at Woodvale, the children will be equipped with a strong understanding on how to use different elements of art and skills to create outstanding, eye-catching pieces of artwork.
