Geography

Geography at Woodvale Primary Academy

At Woodvale, we believe that our children need to know where they belong in the world and so aim to make the curriculum relevant to them and their families. We are very lucky to have a global community in our school with a wealth of knowledge that we can draw upon to ensure our children get the best experiences that they can. We know that in this diverse world, an appreciation and understanding of other people and cultures is an essential part of a child’s learning.

We follow the National Curriculum objectives for each Key Stage with our bespoke curriculum making links to our local area where we can. Our youngest children begin by looking at features in the area around us before widening their perspective as they move through the school, looking first at the United Kingdom then then further afield as far as the Arctic and Antarctic. We interlink much of our geography learning with other subjects, for example studying settlements and land use through history and latitude and longitude through science.

When they leave Woodvale, we want our children to know about the area that they come from and in which they live but also excited for the adventures that the rest of the world holds for them.
